Nohutlu Pilav


      this recipe can be made with freshly cooked or canned garbanzo beans. If using the canned I usually think they taste a little differently. I like to do away with that taste by cooking them with the onions as they caramelize to give them a delicious butter and slightly nuttier taste. 

Pilaf Recipe
3 large onions, chopped
1 can garbanzo beans, drained
2 c. basmati rice
2-3 c. leftover cooked basmati rice
2 Tbsp. parsley

Heat the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onions and cook, stirring over so often but not constantly, for about 5 minutes or just until the onions are translucent. Add the beans and continue cooking over medium heat until the onions have shrunk down and are golden. The process takes about 30 minutes. 

Once the onions are golden and caramelized add the cooked rice and stir to coat with the butter and onion and heat through. 

Sprinkle with parsley and serve.
