Apple ssamjang is a condiment used for Korean bar-b-que, greens, rice, meat and ssamjang are all wrapped in a delicious bundle and eaten in one bite. Her video not only provides a great recipe but also some fun cultural insights as well
Traditionally ssamjang is made with a sweetener, the apples are a Maangchi originally, and they add a delicious sweetness and crunch to the sauce. Because the deonjang is so salty I balanced it out by still adding a little honey as well.
1/4 c. deonjang paste
1 Tbsp. gochujang
2 large sweet apples
2 cloves garlic
1 green onion
1 1/2 Tbsp sesame oil
1 tsp. honey
Sesame seeds, cooked rice, greens, to serve
Peel, core, and finely chop the apple. Mix everything together until well mixed and thoroughly combined.
Eat in a lettuce wrap with rice and BBQ if using.
