Chinese Five Spice Seasoning



Chinese Five spice a sweet, savory, and spicy blend used in a Chinese cooking. The blend itself can be difficult to find but thankfully the individual components are not.

15 Star anise pods
1 medium stick cinnamon
6 cloves
2 tsp. szechuan peppercorns
2 tsp. fennel seeds

Place all the spices in a nonstick skillet and heat over medium until fragrant and toasted, about 5 minutes. Stir often to keep from scorching. 

Place the toasted spices in a high powdered blender and pulse until finely ground. 

Pour on to a plate to allow to cool completely. Once cool pour in to an airtight container.
