After posting the Puerto Rican coquito yesterday I wanted to post a similar Haitian Christmas treat. This version uses different spices and a slightly different technique to flavor the drink.

1 1/2 c. water
1 large cinnamon stick
1 star anise
3 allspice berries
1 can sweetened condensed milk
1 can cream of coconut
4 c. coconut milk
1/2 tsp. rum extract, or to taste (optional)

Combine the water, cinnamon stick, anise pod, and allspice berries. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to simmer. Simmer for 15 minutes. Remove and discard the spices. Chill.

In a blender combine the spice tea, sweetened condensed milk, cream of coconut, coconut milk, and extract if using. Combine until smooth.

Chill overnight before serving.
