Morir Soñando

This delightful Dominican drink is cream and oooohhhhh so refreshing.  It's slightly creamy and ice cold and taste like a creamsicle. Later that night however I really wanted some more to drink and had a partially used can of coconut milk and decided to try it with that and oh man, it was different but just as delicious. I recommend trying both styles.

Make sure when following the recipe to follow it exactly. The proportions can be changed but the technique cannot. The technique is what keeps the the citrus and dairy from reacting to each other and curdling. If this happens the drink will be flavorless and bitter. One thing I noticed was that is did start to separate after it had sat for about 10 minutes. It was worried it was curdled but a quick stir recombined everything and all was good.

1 (12 oz.) can evaporated milk OR Coconut Milk
1/4 - 1/2 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
6 c. orange juice
4 c. crushed ice

Mix together whichever milk you are using, sugar, and vanilla.  Keep stirring until the sugar is dissolved.

Add the crushed ice and stir to mix the milk through the ice.

Slowly drizzle in the orange juice, stirring constantly.

Serve immediately.
