Piroshky



Fried meat pastries? Sign me up! Ok, so outdated slang aside, a do love savory pastries at least as much as the sweet ones. So while looking up recipes I found a blog written by a Ukrainian American woman called Valentina's Corner. I'd heard of piroshky before but never tried them. I've had bierock before, a very similar treat but baked instead of fried. I loved the texture of this fried dough, somewhere between an eggroll and a Utah scone. Also I have a new cast iron pot I used to fry in and loved it. I can definitely see what all the hype with cast iron is about. I did mix my fillings, I used ground beef since it's what I had on hand and added some chopped cabbage to it for variety. Next time I can't wait to try it with apple pie filling.
